'Beastie #4' (watercolour and gold leaf on wooden panel)

£100.00

This is one of a series of miniature (4” x 4”) paintings inspired by the strange little creatures that inhabit the margins of the Luttrell Psalter, an illuminated manuscript of the middle ages (created 1320 - 1340).

Hybrid creatures are common in medieval illustration but the Luttrell Psalter is an especially good source for those who enjoy a little bit of medieval weirdness. It’s not easy to gain access to the original manuscript but the British Library has done a wonderful job of digitising many of the pages in its open source catalogue.

This version has been recreated by me, with liberties and embellishments, using watercolour, casein and 23.75 carat embellished gold, mounted onto a wooden panel and varnished. The painting is framed and ready to hang in a beautiful 7½” square wooden frame.

The listed price includes free UK shipping. I am very happy to ship worldwide upon request. (If you live outside the UK, please contact me to discuss the postage options for your country.)
